My Magazine Creation Compared To A real Magazine

My magazine I felt was very similar to a real magazine. Due to research of different magazine companies I analysed the way they way created this included;

· Layout – Of the text, images and shapes
· Images – Manipulation of the images, special effects ways in which the images are emphasised to draw attention.
· Colour Scheme – The colour scheme used throughout the magazine.

After analysing the things above I interpreted them into my creation of my magazine. I used a consistent colour scheme to create a professional feel towards my magazine. The layout of my text had to be in the correct place to make it easy for the readers to read and see. The images also had to be manipulated to show a change however still making it clear and visible towards the reader.

Moreover I used the same basis as a real magazine and used it as my template I then added my own ideas and interpreted my information data and images to make my magazine look as realistic as possible.

Questionnaire Results

I created a questionnaire which i gave out to one of a form in my school. I gave this to a year 8 class as i beleive at that age you have th most imagaination and creativity. Therefore i included 9 questions that where based around the;

  • Layout
  • Genre
  • Price
  • Colour Scheme

After analysing the results i had recived back i was very happy with the different comments that had come back. The majority of the results where very similar apart form the price section. However after looking throiugh i interpreted some of the ideas into my project. The main correction that was said in each questionnaire was to do with the layout and placement of my barcode. I had place my barcode over the top of one of the text on my front cover therefore this was hard to read. After again looking at my results the feedback said "Move the barcode so you can see the text". I went back on to photoshop and moved my layers around and i sorted the problem out this made my front cover look alot better then what it was before.

Double Page Spread

My double page spread I was very pleased about. As I wanted to create a realistic magazine I felt that I had to use and interpret the language of my genre and incorporate it into my double page spread to create a realistic magazine. Firstly to create my double page spread I first watched some interviews of rappers via YouTube to get me into the mind set. After I then analysed various different rap double page spreads to give me an idea of the layout. From then I put my ideas together this included;

· Language – The language I used had to tie in with my genre of the magazine therefore I changed some of the way I spelt some of the words to create that image. I change the to tha etc. By doing this is added a impression that It was an actual interview and by writing in an informal way it made the reader think that this was an actual interview.

· Image – The images I used again where to do with the genre of the magazine. I firstly added so pictures of my band in near enough the same pose I wanted to be a change to make the double page look interesting and realistic.

· Colour – As I wanted my magazine to look as professional as I could get it I used the same colour scheme that I used fro my front cover. By doing this is create a professional feel and it showed that my magazine was consistent throughout.

After analysing my questionnaire results I noticed that there was something lacking in my double page spread. To add a more realistic image I added quotes which I placed over both images on each page to add some ingredients to the double page to make it look full and interesting for the reader to read.

If I Were To Do The Coursework Again

If I was to do this coursework differently I would manage my time more effectively and make a rough plan on what I had to do before I started work. I would also use my free periods more effectively to complete each piece of work at a higher standard. Moreover I would even out the distribution of the work and decide whether it would be easier to do it at home or in school. I also would complete each individual piece of work and not start another as i found later through the project i had started the majority of teh work and nver got round to finishing it.

Time Management

My time management fro my overall project o would give a 6/10 as towards the end I had realised i had missed out some key work that I needed to get the higher marks. However if I had a unproductive day at school because of all the computers being used I used my memory stick to transfer work between school and home. Therefore I did a lot of homework at home which I felt I got most work done as it was in my own working environment and I didn’t feel pressured. As I had Photoshop at home I could edit my work easier then in school as my operating platform is Windows. This made it easier for me to create my magazine cover, contents and double page.

Some of the task I finished very quickly as I new what I was doing and I got my head down and worked. But sometimes I would slip up and then get caught behind with some of the pieces of my work. Overall I could have worked more thorough in school and used my free time at home more effectively with completing my project with enough time to finish and corrections without rushing it in the final stages.

Photos

Photos

To make my magazine look realistic I wanted to include photos. As my magazines genre is rap I decided to get three of my friends from school to pose for my magazine. The reason I chose my friends to pose for me was they all like rap music and the clothes they where wearing where in style of a rapper.

The took several images of the band as I knew I had to include two of them in my double page spread and one main image on the front cover. I had taken photos where in relation to the plans I made of my music magazine. I placed each friend one behind each other and told them to do a relaxed pose as this was the image I wanted to out across to my readers. I also took a very similar image to my first one as I wanted to put a relaxed feel towards the reader.

After choosing my main centre image and images to put on my double page spread I then took some more pictures of some of my other fiends as these images would be included in the contents page. For one of the images I wanted to create an intimidating feel to do this I told my friend to make a shape of a gun with his fingers pointing at the camera and to squint his eyes to create a gangster presence.
My next image was of one of my other friends. Because I had a poster of 2Pac I placed him in front of it and told him to look relaxed as I wanted this picture to look cool and relaxed. My final image I took was of my over two friends which I wanted one to look at the camera and one of them to look away to create a hesitant image. To add more of an effect I placed my friend’s behind a wall to create an urban image.

Creating My Music Magazine

Creating My Music Magazine

To create my front cover I used Photoshop as it has many different effects and many ways to manipulate photos. I firstly decided to use a gothic font called Olde English, but after analysing it, the font did not relate to the genre of the magazine. Therefore I changed the font to a font called Dirty Ego which kept in theme for the genre of the magazine. I then had to decide the colour scheme to use, I decided to use a bright lime green colour as, the font colour is black and the colours contrast with each other which draw attention.

I added special blending effects for the font by adding the outer glow effect. I changed the opacity to 100% to make the effect stand out. I also altered the other presets to get my desired image and effect. I also altered the size of the font, the heading had the biggest font size at 850pt and the rest of the information on the front page was size 160pt. After I had decided the size of my font and layout, it was time to add my main centre image which I had taken at school.

The original picture featured, buildings of which did not fit in the theme of my magazine. Therefore I had to crop the background out. To do this I firstly used the magnetic lasso tool which was very effective as the tool was very precise and was very accurate to the movement of the mouse. I used the tool to remove all of the background; once I had finished cropping the image I entered one of my own into the background which was in relation to the genre of my magazine.

To make my creation easier I used many layers for each individual part therefore the creation was user friendly in the sense I could go back to any part of the magazine and edit any individual part.

Once I had created my magazine front cover I went on to create my contents page which was very easy to make. I used the same font, colours and layout. I also added a green outline on the page to add some more effect and to fill the page up. As well as the contents of what was in the magazine I added 3 other photos at the bottom of the page. I manipulated these images by changing the lighting effects. To do this I went to filter toolbar and selected render which gave me the lighting effect .I wanted to create a 3d effect for each image to make it seem the images are faded into the black background. I also used the blending options and used bevel and emboss tool to create a metal shine effect to add some effect to draw attention.

After creating my contents page I then created my double page spread. The background colour is black to keep it in the colour style as all my other creations used the same colour scheme. I also added two more pictures of my band which I cropped and edited, to make the magazine look professional. I used the same font for the entire interview on the double page spread. The questions are in the same lime green colour as I used into the previous creations. The heading I made used the same Dirty Ego font however I added the blending option to add a white glowed effect. This draws attention and also keeps in the house style of all my other pages.
